Emily Sherman is a writer and speaker.
The origins of this collection began in the early morning hours.
I would wake each day and watch my husband in deep sleep – drawing his breath in and out, then releasing it as he’d done for so many years. He needed that sleep, especially after going through hours of chemotherapy treatments that took every ounce of energy and strength from him.
Life felt unbearable. Until we had our morning coffee and conversation.
We were both political junkies. People of medicine and science…daily discussions of our world were stimulating and exciting. Coupled with sadness and concern for the state of the world…anger and impotence at not being able to affect any change for our children and generations to come.
I read my poetry to Alan as we shared our breakfast. And, he would say, “You are my medieval poetess…You paint with words.”
So this was my routine – rising early and speaking into my phone – saving the email to read to Alan at breakfast.
It became ‘OUR THING.’
It turned into a blessing for both of us.
I was able to tell him everything I felt and wanted to share with him…
So I would have no regrets.
Emily lives and works from Florida and is available to travel for local speaking engagements.
